Horsin Around Session 5 at Patty Powells Farm
The Kids and Pat w/ Short Cut--Goal Met
December 15th, 2012 11AM
Gail Fantetti, Patty Powell, Alicia Kent and her crew along with Nyla, One Bun Linda Grandma Chicken, Aunte Jenny Almost, Ralph Evens for three minutes, and NO KATHY'S. Whatwaht? Oh yeah, and me Searcy the Great~ missed you Kenny and Kathy's and Judy and whatnot. Kim Yelton really has no excuse because we were right there by ya. Whatever~ Chris? Gayle had to work for she runs Puppy Love Shack in Logan Indiana and is a wonderful dog and cat groomer if anyone needs that kind of work..
Doc and Short Cut

The entire time was really nice and laid back. Alicia and Searcy both arrived late only to walk into Pat's coffeeless house to smell fresh brewing coffee. For the love of Fanetti, thank you sweet jesus. Gail Fantetti had brought her own coffee maker and coffee (because Pat does not partake in such heavens) and started brewing coffee for the lot of us. It was the most wonderful smell to arrive late to and we got busy with Gail's ole time perk pot. Searcy knew that this was to be expected so she brought pumpkin spice creamer that Alicia and Gail quickly spit out for shores of regular milk. That was all the more for Searcy. Picky coffee creamer snobs.
Ralph Evens made it to the party Horsin Around session and would have been the first male to breech the all female crowd but he doesn't count because he stayed in the corner all by his lonesome and then departed before we ever went outside. Ralph hates women for some reason. I would think it is because women are so much smarter then he and he felt stupid and left early due to, again, being stupid! Nonetheless, he was almost the first male to make the HA sessions but not quite. We are sorry Ralph, that you left feeling inadequate and inferior to the ladies. We can't help it when it comes to being great. It was said later that he had stomped out. Well~
To get the entire HA group off to a good start, Alicia brought in some kind of Mexicali Dip Mix that she made with Sour Cream, cheeses, beans and tomatoes topped with fresh Cilantro couple with the chips. We must have been hungry because it was gone before we went out to the stable. The coffee was so wonderful and Pat did have coffee cups, be it that they were the little thimble size coffee cups from years gone by. They were from the day when people only drank a spot of coffee or tea and did so with a saucer, unlike the guzzle cups that must of us own today. It was impossible to drink this coffee with out raising a brow and tossing out that pinky finger because that is what one does when drinking from actual tiny little china cups. That is a nice add to our secret coffee at Pats. Who knew we would get us some culture up in there? Fun too. You know it is fun to drink a hot beverage whilst throwing your pinky finger into the air. It just feels uppity.
While we were pinky drinking our coffee, digging into the dip and stuffing our faces with goodness, Aunte Jennifer called Pats house and said that she had made it from Mainville to the Lawrenceburg exit, she was turning around because it was pouring rain and she was right, it was pouring down at that moment. We were excited about the pending arrival of Aunte Jenny but she didn't want to play in the rain and who can blame her. Unbeknownst to any of us, when we did go out side about a half and hour or so later, the rain did downplay to a light drizzle and then quit all together and the sun came out for a short time. That was pretty wonderful but we couldn't have known that from the start, for they called for rain all day. We really missed you Jennifer and hope you can make it to the next one we have on the weekend. These gigs are fun.
Pat had already pulled Doc out into the round pen prior to everyone arriving, so he just needed to be saddled and hacked and he would be ready to go for the kids. She volunteered Searcy to get up on Doc and make sure that he was going to behave for the children because he had only been ridden once since the first HA Group back in September. The kids handed Searcy the helmet in which she donned the thing on backwards according to Kerenza, proving that there really wasn't that much to protect up there in that noggin. The children helped Searcy put on her padded head dress correctly and pointed her toward the horse. Doc was fine. Perfect even. except for a touch of stubbornness, he was a real gentlemen and deemed ridable for the short people. First up was Nyla. She was on Doc being led by Alicia but Nyla really didn't want anyone in charge of her. She wanted to run off into the field without anybody else. Just her and the horse together as one, which I assume she had gotten the idea from some TV show, such as Secretariat maybe. She didn't understand that you must learn in stages and really put up quite a fight over the idea. I do believe that she did have fun over all for we saw her crack a smile here and there and stated that she was having fun.
While the children were being led around by Alicia and Searcy, Pat and Linda and Gail were in the barn getting ready to pull out Short Cut from the stall. Mom's big goal for the day was to get that horse out and lead him around. She hasn't handled him on lead since he nearly killed her nine years ago. Alicia and Searcy put the kids in the back paddock and Doc back into the round pen and dismounted Kalana from Doc's back just incase something went wrong.
Pat, with the help in backing of Linda and Gail pulled out Short Cut from the stable and walked him around the yard in front of the barn. Doc is now, all of the sudden not a laid back pie handle but has turned into a jumpy mess with Short Cut out of his stall. Alicia was holding him and he was stomping and pawing and jumping from side to side and also doing some crazy head tossing. Alicia said she wanted to take pictures of Pat and Short Cut and trade Searcy's camera for Doc's dancing reins. Searcy agreed but did recognize that Alicia valued her own life much much more than that of her sister Searcy's. No body cared. Poor Searcy............
But I digress, Pat walked Short Cut around and backed him up and led him in circles. She was amazed that he remember to back on cue as if he had been taught yesterday and not over nine years ago. She hugged her horse and she cried. Alicia did get some really good pictures of Pat's joy in the handling of her favorite horse despite throwing her sister away.
Once Pat put Short Cut back into the stall Doc instantly settled down to a normal horse again. We gave him a few minutes to settle his soul and it was Kerenza's turn to ride. She rode Doc around and around the round pen and did a wonderful job. She rode him without anyone leading her around. On her own, she was able to navigate him and though he be quite stubborn, Kerenza was able to make him move and take instruction from the side lines as well as her Aunte Searcy from inside the round pen. Kerenza, Kalana and Nyla all did a great job in the saddle and Kalana and Nyla were pretty eager to ride into the sunset in a blaze of glory but Alicia couldn't run all the way to the sunset and not fast enough either. Maybe she can but I heard her refuse. It was funny, there are pictures of Nyla and Kalana both pointing from atop the steed directing Alicia to "run that way". To funny.
With Pat's favorite horse safely back in his stall and Kerenza dismounting Doc, we removed his tack and carried it all back to the house for lunch. Gail referred to Pat and a "pro baby maker" which cracked a couple of us up. Pat made pulled pork BBQ & homemade cole slaw and Searcy made home made yeast buns for the sandwiches, Linda brought a wonderful homemade salad and Gail brought a double chocolate chocolate cake. Let us feast!
After dinner we were all talking about horses and horse clubs. Gail and Linda are in some Ohio clubs such as Ohio Horse Council and Cincinnati Horse Club. Sounds interesting. Linda brought an old newspaper article of Judy that she had brought to give her. It was a full page article from the Journal dated "November 16th, 1993" and the headline read, "New Horse Club's Arabian Focus Dates to Antiquity". It had a huge picture of Judy riding "Aint Miz Behavin" saying that Judy was a 2nd level dressage and in the picture the horse was bowing. It had a quote from Judy saying that "I decide my goal in life was always to have a purebred Arabian'. It has two big pictures of Judy with her horses from then and Silvia had written instructions on the top of the paper in ink. Wonderful to see! Thanks for sharing that Linda. I loved that. She had quite a few things to see but we ran out of time due to the talking.
Gail and Linda were taking a tour of Pat's house and in the basement, Gail found a huge selection of Antique coffee pot perks. We came to realize that mom actually has a fetish for them and gets people to bring their pots to have coffee there, stating that she has none and then steals the unsuspecting guest's coffee pot. We had to keep an eye on Gail's pot so that it didn't end up in Pat's growing collection. And we wondered where Alicia gets it!
Alicia stole nothing that we know of. Pat said that she would look to see if anything was missing. That is hilarious.
Linda said that Pat's house was the most wonderfully interesting house that she had ever seen. Unusual knick Knacks I think she said.
WORD OF THE DAY: Knick -Knack via Linda
Paddy Whack via Alicia
Gail made it the entire session without poking or smashing or crushing another living creature.
(that we know of)
This is a first and so it is dated and stated. Dec/15/12
